Phishing attack: Email to students pretending to be from Libraries and Learning Services

On Sunday 14 May 2017 University of Auckland students were subject to a phishing attack. An email “Library Access Renewal” was sent pretending to be from Libraries and Learning Services. It included a link for users to ‘sign in’, to prevent library services ‘expiring’. Please ignore and delete this email.

Libraries and Learning Services will never ask you to update passwords or renew library account details via a link in an email.

This is classic phishing behaviour where users are subject to a sense of urgency and encouraged to sign in using a link in the email, thus divulging their password details.

ITS have some an excellent information about phishing, including how to manage your password and identify the real University of Auckland login page.

Students – please contact the Information Commons Helpdesk if you need assistance.

Staff – any queries please contact the ITS Service Desk.

Remain vigilant and stay cyber safe everyone!
