Award-winning New Zealand children’s authors to visit Epsom Campus

Book covers from New Zealand authorsSylvia Ashton-Warner Library is delighted to be collaborating with the NZ Children’s Book Lobby to host two author talks this semester. All students and staff are welcome.

Monday 31 July
Author Melinda Syzmanik will speak on a range of other New Zealand children’s authors and introduce some of her own work. Melinda publishes at all age levels and is hugely knowledgeable about New Zealand publishing. At last year’s event, Melinda delighted us with her newly-published picture book Fuzzy Doodle, which has since received much critical acclaim and been included on many award shortlists.

Friday 1 September
This talk will focus on how to use New Zealand children’s books to support the school curriculum, with author, teacher, blogger Maria Gill. Maria’s non-fiction is wide-ranging and has won numerous book awards. Her latest book Anzac Heroes was named Margaret Mahy Book of the Year 2016.

Each talk will be from 12.10 to 1pm and will take place in the Sylvia Ashton-Warner Library, Seminar Room, Level 2.

Fuzzy Doodle is an absolute delight. I notice Scholastic has produced a set of Teacher’s Notes to accompany this: http://resource.scholastic.com.au/resourcefiles/9241_47742.pdf

It sure is, Tricia. Great to see that Scholastic has produced Teacher’s Notes. That’s really helpful, thanks.
