Get your free Grammarly Premium subscription

All staff and students at the University of Auckland are eligible for a free Grammarly Premium subscription.

Grammarly Premium contains:

  • A grammar checker
  • A contextual spelling checker
  • A vocabulary enhancer
  • A plagiarism checker

Victoria Hawkins is a PhD student in the School of Biological Science. She says that “Grammarly is fantastic. It picks up issues that other spelling and grammar checkers don’t. Not only does Grammarly check your spelling, but it helps with sentence structure, vocabulary and flow, which helps improve your overall writing style.”

She doesn’t just use Grammarly when writing about her neurogenetic research. “Grammarly allows you to set your writing style from casual to academic writing, making it great for any writing you do.”

“Whether you want just to check your spelling or are looking to improve your writing style, Grammarly is excellent.”

As the Web Content Lead at the University of Auckland, it’s important for Frazer Orr to get the tone just right. He says that “even confident writers can benefit from using Grammarly. Its assistant is very good at keeping you focused on your audience and your writing goals”

“Now that everyone at the University of Auckland can access a premium subscription, I’d recommend they try it out for themselves.”

To get your free Grammarly Premium subscription, sign up to Grammarly using your University of Auckland email address. Your University of Auckland email address will end in either @auckland.ac.nz or @aucklanduni.ac.nz.

Your @aucklanduni.ac.nz email address is a Google account, so you can use the ‘Continue with Google’ function with this email address to make the sign up process even easier.

Hi there. It says an access code is required to activate the premium account and I can’t find any reference to this. Could you please advise the next step?

    • Libraries and Learning Services commented on 18/03/2021

      Kia ora Benjamin,

Sorry that you’re having issues! The key thing that you need to do is to sign up using your University of Auckland email address, i.e. the one ending with @aucklanduni.ac.nz. If you sign up with this email address you will automatically get your premium subscription, and will not have to enter an access code.

Your @aucklanduni.ac.nz email address is a Google account, so you can use the ‘Continue with Google’ function to make the sign up process even easier.

    What if I don’t have a @aucklanduni.ac.nz account?

    • Libraries and Learning Services commented on 28/05/2021

      Kia ora,
Thanks for asking! Grammarly Premium is freely available to University of Auckland students and staff, who usually have an email account in this format. Let us know if you are but experience issues with your email account. Everyone who is interested can sign up for a free Grammarly account, or purchase a premium plan, on the Grammarly website. If you are a member of a different education provider, you may want to check with them as well, just in case they have a Grammarly Premium subscription for their members.
