Your new Library homepage is here!

Update: 16 November 2022

You will notice some exciting new changes on the Te Tumu Herenga, Libraries and Learning Services homepage. These changes are all part of a programme of work we are presently doing to ensure our Library web content, applications, and platforms remain current and aligned with University application standards and current design practices.

The changes are intended to create a better user experience for our students, more efficient workflows for our staff, and closer alignment with the University’s digital strategy.

You may notice that the new homepage incorporates the design of the wider University website’s look and feel while still retaining the rich content structure of our existing library website that you’ve relied on.

Further website changes are planned for 2023, and we will be seeking feedback along the way.

What is new?

You can scroll down

On our previous Library homepage, everything was presented on your screen (or ‘within the fold’ as web nerds like to call it). To align with the wider University, we have added lower tiles on the new homepage that link to content we know is important to you.

The Catalogue

You can now search the library catalogue directly from the new library homepage. Behind the scenes, we have moved the catalogue to a cloud-hosted environment. Your favourite items in your library account will be migrated into the new catalogue soon, but unfortunately, your saved searches have not been shifted over.

Using search

From the new integrated Library Catalogue search box, you can get straight into the results you’re looking for. If you want to search the broader University website for non-catalogue-related things, you can also use the top-right-hand corner search bar.

The Library menu

The Library menu now lives under the main University website menus. We’ll be developing this more next year based on your feedback. No content has shifted in this section, so you’ll be able to find your trusty Talis link still under the Teach section.

Databases

Databases can now be accessed via the Catalogue. You can search for a database from the homepage or use the Databases link to browse by category.

The new database system is designed to highlight databases that are of specific use to particular research or teaching disciplines rather than showing lists of every database that a particular discipline might find useful.

To find a particular database just type the name into the database search box.

Exam papers

The past exam papers section has a new look and feel. We have migrated the past five years of exams for you to peruse.

Manuscripts and Archives and TV and Radio

Manuscripts and Archives and TV and Radio items are no longer available to search through the main library catalogue search box.

To access items from these collections, you’ll need to click on the relevant link beneath the library catalogue search box. This will take you directly to the resource you’re looking for

Questions?

Our new Library homepage and upgraded Catalogue are the first steps in our wider web content improvement project. If you have any questions, concerns, or general feedback, please Ask us.

How come there are only 7 databases for Civil engineering? There were many of them before. We can’t even get the link to the CRC press, and Wiley book.

    It really sucks!

      Kia ora Julia,

The new database system is designed to highlight databases that are of specific use to particular research or teaching disciplines rather than being lists of every database that a particular discipline might find useful.

CRC press and Wiley are broad use databases that are relevant across the entire University system, which is why they are not listed under Civil Engineering (many more databases are covered under the broader Engineering category). To find a particular database just type the name into the database search box.

      Ngā mihi nui
