20 years of New Zealand Music Month

This May marks 20 years of NZ Music Month.   In keeping with the times, most of the month’s events have moved online and include live-streamed gigs, awards and radio specials. The theme is also one we can all get behind from a safe distance: `Support local. Stream local. Follow local. Buy local.’

To celebrate the 20-year milestone, Media Services in Te Tumu Herenga has compiled a New Zealand music playlist, featuring a mix of documentaries, shows and performances. There’s something for everyone, from Flying Nun to the NZ Symphony Orchestra; from 80s rock programme Radio with Pictures to last month’s Music from the Home Front: An ANZAC Day Concert, the live-streamed, trans-Tasman tribute to veterans and Covid-19 workers.

The TV and Radio database also has a wealth of additional musical content such as the 13th Floor Sessions, where music expert Marty Duda presents performances by New Zealand artists, while Kiwi musicians talk about their influences on Roots Music.

So, unwind with our NZ Music playlist and find out what other music gems have been captured by exploring TV and Radio.
