Collection changes including the new Pacific Collection

The next time you visit the General Library, you may notice a few changes to the collections. We are in the process of establishing a stand-alone Pacific Collection and integrating New Zealand material into the Main Collection.

Why are these changes happening?

Establishing the Pacific Collection supports the University’s commitment to preserve and enhance Pacific knowledge, strengthen research capacities and deliver “World-class research inspired by our place in Aotearoa and the Pacific”.1

This programme of work also gives us the opportunity to move all New Zealand materials into the Main Collection. This brings general subjects, including government and official publications, into a single sequence, supporting discoverability.

Catalogue locations

Items in the Pacific Collection can be identified in the Catalogue by the location ‘Pacific Collection Level M’. When you arrive on Level M, you will find the Pacific Collection next to the Mātauranga Māori Collection. These are interim locations as we work on final floor layouts for the building. We will keep you up-to-date with future changes.

Items being moved into the Main Collection will be temporarily located on Level 1, and the Catalogue will show as ‘New Zealand Level 1’. We are working our way through relabeling these books and filing them into the Main Collection.

We are here to help

While we separate the collections in the General Library, it may at times be difficult to locate items.

For assistance, you can:

  • Visit us at the Help Desk on Level 1 of the General Library
  • Place a Catalogue request if you can’t find something
  • Ask Us
